Email marketing is very important for bloggers. It provides more traffic, more earnings and you can also create a strong bond with your readers. For email marketing, you need a good email service provider. Curious which email service provider is the best? Read on!

This post contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link. You can see my disclosure page here, thanks for your support!

Free Email Service Provider

If you’ve just started blogging, I definitely recommend starting with Mailchimp. This e-mail service provider is free of charge up to 2000 subscribers and if you have reached those 2000 subscribers, then you have to pay. Mailchimp is good for if you are below 2000 subscribers, but if you are above it, you really have to look at another program.

If you think about having a newsletter, you are probably only thinking about sending emails. Yet there is a big difference between sending emails and keeping a newsletter. As soon as I reach the 2000 subscribers on Mailchimp, I will switch to Convertkit. This program attracts me very strongly and there are a number of reasons for that.

A paid email service provider

Because of this link, I could test Convertkit for free for 14 days and I immediately knew I wanted to switch to Convertkit. If you are hesitating about subscribing to Convertkit, then I recommend trying out Convertkit via this link. I mean.. It is free, so what can go wrong?

Custom opt-in forms

The first reason I am switching to Convertkit is the opt-in forms. Do you know how difficult it is to create an opt-in form that suits my blog design? Every time I want to add a form to my blog, it takes a lot of time, and of course, I can spend that much better on improving my blog or on other important things. With Convertkit you can create a lot of forms that suit different opt-ins. I would like to make an opt-in form for my freebies, an opt-in form for my free e-course and of course a general opt-in form. Unfortunately, this isn’t possible with Mailchimp.

Automation rules

This is going to make my life so much easier. With these rules, you can say: If this happens, then this has to happen. For example, if a subscriber clicks on a particular link, then that subscriber must be added to this tag. For example, if I promote a certain affiliate product, it is useful to know who is actually interested and who isn’t.

Own landing page

If you have Mailchimp, you probably know how ugly the landing pages are. It is just a white page that you can make more beautiful, but it just remains ugly. With Convertkit you can, fortunately, make your own landing page and I think that is really a must. With landing pages, you can promote your own opt-ins, without having to scare your visitors through a white page.

Convertkit is cheaper than Mailchimp

Hah, you’ve got 2000 subscribers, but you have to pay for Mailchimp now. It may be free now, but after 2000 subscribers it will be paid. In addition, Mailchimp is free when you stay below 12,000 emails per month. This sounds like a lot, but if you have 500 subscribers and you send about 2 emails per week, then you are quickly on 4000 emails per month. So if you want to send more emails per week (which is really a must!), then you are unlucky, because then you have to pay.

Above you can see the pricing of Mailchimp. So, if you have 2500 subscribers, you pay $ 30 per month. After that 2500 subscribers, the price goes up considerably. You are suddenly charged $ 5 per month extra if you only have 100 subscribers extra. If you then have 5000 subscribers, then you pay $ 55 per month. (I don’t understand the logic).

But the nice thing about Mailchimp is… Your subscribers’ number goes up incredibly fast. And no, that isn’t because you are so popular. For example, let’s say you have four lists and then someone subscribes for all those four lists. Then you aren’t 1 subscriber richer, but 4 subscribers. And yes, the price will go up immediately as well.

Convertkit has so many different options, the price you pay for Mailchimp can be much better used for Convertkit.

Now you think of .. Celine… Those prices of Convertkit are really more expensive. But no, that is really not the case. By Mailchimp you are obliged to make different lists because without those lists you cannot reach different types of people. So if you have 2000 subscribers for example on Mailchimp and those 2000 subscribers are members of all four lists, then you actually only have 500 subscribers. In other words, Mailchimp costs you $30 per month and Convertkit only costs $24 per month. If you then make more lists in my case due to different opt-ins, you will have to spend more money on Mailchimp.

So.. Which is the best?

If you’ve just started blogging and are still below 2000 subscribers, then Mailchimp is highly recommended. This way you can taste the way of email marketing and then you can always switch to another provider. If you are above 2000 subscribers, then Convertkit is really a must. This program has so many great options and is cheaper than Mailchimp!
