I notice that people just don’t understand Google Analytics. Some don’t use Google Analytics at all and some just don’t understand how you can use this program. Today I am going to explain to you how this program works and what you can do with this. How does Google Analytics work? You read that in this blog!

How does Google Analytics work?

There are a couple of concepts you need to know before we can definitely start. For example, there is much uncertainty about what are unique visitors. Unique visitors are users. Besides that, you have a couple more things in your target group. The sessions and new users. The sessions are the different actions which are made on your website. The new users are a number of new users comparing to last month.

Google Analytics

What can you do with this?

Now the question is of course what you can do with Google Analytics. We divide Google Analytics into a couple of groups. Language and locations, users per source, age and gender and as for last, landing pages.

Language and location

With language and location, you can see where everyone gets from and which language these people speak. I see many Dutch bloggers who make English pins to get more visitors. Handy of course, because this way you will get a lot more visitors. A big part of the world population speaks English. Unfortunately, this way you don’t get real visitors, only people who leave your website immediately, because they can’t read Dutch. With language and location, you can see people who visit your website and maybe you can consider to blog in English.

Users per source

Now we are going to talk about users per source. I think this is one of the most important functions of Google Analytics. With this function, you can see from which social media site your visitors get from. For example, I take my own analytics. With users per source I get many visitors from Pinterest, but almost nothing from Facebook. Now I can do two things. When I don’t have much time I would spend more time on Pinterest and less on Facebook. Now I have more time, so I am going to focus more on Pinterest, but also on Facebook, to see if I can boost my traffic from Facebook. When school starts again, I am going to take a look at my users per source and next, I will adapt my strategy to that. When my Facebook traffic suddenly goes pretty well, I will spend more time in this and then adapt my strategy. It is very important that you take a look at this function frequently. I take a look at this function every single month.

How does Google analytics work with age and gender

When I go to age and gender then I can see exactly which target group visits my blog frequently. On my analytics, I see that many women visit my blog, what is pretty logical for a beauty blog. Imagine, you have a blog about gadgets and you see that a lot of men visit your website. If you want, you can make articles for men, because men are interested in your website. For age counts the same. When you see that a lot of young people visit your blog, you can adapt your articles to those young visitors. It is only important that you stay close to yourself. It is not the goal to write for the visitors of course.

Landing pages

As for last, we have landing pages. Which articles do people love and which do people hate? You can check that out here. As I already said, it is important to write about whatever you want, but if you want to blog more serious, then it is handy maybe to write more articles which people really love and which people read a lot. Maybe your fashion posts do very well or maybe your beauty posts. Then you can write more of those articles.

The big question was: How does Google Analytics work? Well, I hope that question has been answered now!
