Starting a blog in 2019

Starting a blog in 2019 isn’t the easiest thing you can do. Yet it is definitely a recommendation to start a blog if you really have a passion for it. I have been blogging for over four years now and I still do it every day with lots of fun. It’s great to blog and I’ve already met so many nice and sweet people, just by blogging. In addition, blogging gives me the opportunity to do what I really do best and I get a lot of opportunities through blogging that I otherwise would not have been able to get.

To start a blog you must first choose a topic. This topic is what you are going to blog about. Think about this topic for a long time and how you can get it done. You can also combine subjects. For example, I blog on The Beautyboulevard about beauty and fashion. These two subjects fit together very well and are therefore very easy to combine. However, you can’t, for example, combine the topic make money and faith together (or there must be a very good link between these two topics). It is possible, of course, but from personal experience, it appears that your blog can’t be very successful.

After four years I started a blog, The Beautyboulevard. This blog is still alive and in september 2018, I started The Blog Boss, the blog you are currently on. When I started blogging four years ago, I didn’t really know anything about blogging. I was asked by someone to start a blog together and that’s what we did. I had made my own theme and I started on Blogger (which I regretted a lot).

So I didn’t know anything about blogging until, three months later, I received an email from a company to work together. Huh? A collaboration? What is that? I didn’t really know anything about working with companies, but after my first collaboration, I got 50 euros for a collaboration. Still quite a lot for a blog that actually just started. The cooperation was great, but at that time I didn’t know that you could make money from blogging. I mean, I was only fourteen years old and I think you should not think about starting a blog in 2019 to make money.

After a year I switched from Blogger to WordPress and then my blog traffic really exploded.  I learned myself a lot of things about blogging and my blog traffic kept growing.

I want to help you start better than me. Not that I made a very bad start, but it wasn’t good either. This is the reason why I started this blog.

How do you start a blog today?

It is definitely a recommendation to start in the right way. To start in the right way, I recommend starting with WordPress. You need a hosting for this. This hosting costs money, but that money is definitely worth it. The best hosting for bloggers is Bluehost. This is a hosting that is cheap, but also very good. I have been using this hosting for a while and I really didn’t have any problems with this hosting. In addition, the support is really fast and they also help me with everything. For example, they have transferred my websites from another hosting for free and this happened in a few minutes.

Choose your plan

If you buy a hosting then you must, of course, choose the right plan. You don’t want to buy a too expensive hosting, but this hosting must of course also work well.

I have signed up for the Plus Webhosting. This hosting costs only 4.50 euros a month and it is well worth it. This way you get free SSL  and you also have a lot of disk space and bandwidth. Are you looking for a good hosting? Definitely take a look at Bluehost.

A domain name

Choosing a domain name is really difficult. I’ve always had a hard time coming up with a good name and I can only say one thing. Take your time. You can’t suddenly change your name again. Try to think of a name that shows what you’re blogging about. For example, in my name, I processed the word ‘blog’ and incorporated the word ‘beauty’ in the name of my other blog.
