Starting a blog is always very difficult. You can’t do this in just a few hours, of course. To simplify the process, I have listed the most frequently asked questions for starting a blog.
Starting a blog
Self Hosted vs. free blogging platform. Which is the best?
Only one answer is possible and that is self-hosted. When I first started blogging, I started on a platform called Blogspot, or Blogger. This is a free platform on which you can create a blog. However, I quickly ran into a lot of pitfalls and I immediately regretted that I didn’t start with a self-hosted platform. After a year (yes, after a year!), I chose to buy a hosting and switch to WordPress.org.

Definitely choose a self-hosted platform such as WordPress (.org). Later in this post, you can read which hosting I recommend for this.

Where should I blog about and how do I choose a niche?
“What am I good at?”. That is the first question you should ask. Don’t start blogging about a specific subject because you can make a lot of money on that subject. Write about something you really have a passion for and try to think carefully about the subject.
In addition, don’t try to put too many topics in a blog. The reason why I started a second blog is that I really wanted to blog about blogging. I did this on The Beautyboulevard, but that doesn’t fit well together. A beauty and fashion blog with weekly blogging tips.. Well, that doesn’t work.
How do I choose a name for my blog?
This is, of course, a difficult question. Yet I have written a very useful article for that! That way you will definitely get a nice blog name. If I can give a short tip .. Just take your time! Think carefully about it and make sure you’ve thought about everything. Do you want to read more tips? Then read my blog about choosing a name for your blog.
Which hosting should I choose?
Choosing a hosting is always very difficult. A few years ago, I started with a hosting that was actually too expensive and the hosting didn’t meet my expectations at all. Everyone just wants a good hosting without paying a lot. A while ago I have researched the best hosting for bloggers. Be sure to read my article about this.
Bluehost is the best hosting for bloggers. I think every blogger knows this hosting. I am a customer for a while now and it is definitely a really good hosting! My website is fast, the customer service is amazing (see: answers in a couple of minutes!) and it is also pretty cheap!

Do I need a paid theme?
No! It is highly recommended, but you don’t necessarily need it. If you are thinking about buying a theme to distinguish yourself from the rest, then I definitely recommend looking at the websites below. These are websites with very different prices and themes. There is definitley something for everyone!
Which plugins do I need?
If you use WordPress.org (the one where you have to buy a hosting), you can choose between a lot of plugins. There are actually a few plugins that are really a must. For example, you have Yoast SEO which ensures that you can optimize your blog posts. By optimizing your blog posts you end up higher in Google which in turn leads to more visitors.
Do you want to know about all the best plugins? Then definitely read my blog about the best Wordpress plugins for bloggers.
Which social media platforms should I start with?
There are many social media platforms on the internet. If I had to recommend three social media platforms I would say Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. However, try to create usernames on all social media platforms that exist. You don’t want your name to be taken away.
In addition, I advise you to focus on one social media platform at the same time. First, optimize one platform and then the other. It is highly recommended to first focus on Pinterest.

Do I need an email list or how do I start one?
Yes! Please start immediately by collecting email addresses. An email list is so important and you will really regret the fact that you haven’t started with starting an email list (at least, I really regret it!). An email list drives more visitors to my blog and it is also a lot easier to get in touch with your readers via your email list.

How much do I need to blog?
First, you should not see blogging as an obligation. You have to see it as something fun and as something to relax with. In addition, I advise you to take a good look at your schedule. How many times a week can you blog and when can you provide good quality articles? Will that be once a week? Maybe you can blog more often? Or maybe less? Every person is different.
However, don’t think that you have to blog every day to get a lot of visitors. Don’t write shitty articles because you necessarily want to start blogging every day. Make sure that your quality goes above quantity.
How do I earn money with my blog?
This is the question a lot of bloggers ask. First, I recommend taking the time for your blog. Don’t think you want to earn money with your blog immediately, because that just doesn’t work. If you are blogging for a while, then it is definitely a recommendation to take a look at the possibilities to earn money with your blog.
